Even though we cannot see it around us ultraviolet radiation is there and is very harmful to our eyes. In order to protect out eyes form damage a good pair of sunglasses can significantly minimize the effect of UV rays. UVA does the “Aging damage; UVB does the “Burning” damage. In order to tell how protective your glasses are the UV rating should be marked on your glasses. Sunglasses with a rating of UV400 are the best and ideal as they have been tested to block out 99-100% of UVA and UVB rays.

Improper care is the biggest leading cause of damage to your lenses and lens coatings shortening the life span of the products. Cleaning your glasses frequently to assure that dirt, perspiration and dust don’t remain on the lenses, as this leads to damage on the lens coatings. When not in use keep your glasses in a case and not on your head as even a scratch-resistant coating cannot completely protect them.   Clean them with a microfibre cloth and cleaning solution your Optician recommends as they are specially designed for eyeglasses. When the cloth is not in use keep it away from dust and other particles the may transfer and damage the lenses. In the case of travelling or the office pre-moistened towelettes made for eyeglass lenses are also a great choice.
